PERSONAL
Gordon
Snedden was
born in Roebank Street, Glasgow on 15 August 1940 and, in
1946, moved with his family to Brechin and, in 1947, to
Oathlaw, near Forfar, where he spent his formative years.
Thereafter he lived, and worked, in Forfar, Arbroath and
Kirriemuir. He married Vi in 1962 and they have a
daughter Jackie (married to Malcolm) and a son Gary (married
to Viv) who all live and
work in Edinburgh.
He worked for Barclay, Ross &
Hutchison, Forfar, for one year before joining Angus
Constabulary in 1956 as a Police Cadet. In 1959
he was
appointed as a Police Officer and was posted to Arbroath.
After attending a three month training course at Whitburn
Training College he was posted to Kirriemuir. After
working for seven years in Kirriemuir he was posted back to
Arbroath. In 1970 he was transferred to plain clothes
duties and was in the criminal investigation department for
the rest of his service, initially in Arbroath and latterly
in Forfar. He served with the regional crime squad for
two years and with the drugs squad for seven years.
In 1984 he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and left the
Police Service in 1989.
In
1989 he formed a business trading as "Tayside
Hilltours" and, for the next ten years he provided guided
walking holidays in the Eastern Highlands of Scotland.
From
1990 to 1998 he did part-time work for R R Donnelly U K
(Distribution Services) supervising the distribution of
Telephone Directories, Yellow Pages and Thompson's Business
Pages in Angus, Dundee, Fife & Perthshire.
In 1998/99 and again in 2000/2001
he
worked for the General Register Office in Edinburgh as their
Census Area Manager with responsibility for Angus & Dundee,
initially for a "Census Dress Rehearsal" being carried out
in Angus and Dundee, and latterly for the full national
census in the same area.
Since
2002 he has been involved with the Angus Glens Hillwalking
Festival and the Blairgowrie & East Perthshire Walking
Festival working as a guide. In November 2003
the Angus Glens Hillwalking Festival was awarded the tourism
award and adjudged by a panel of judges as Angus Ambassador
of the year for promoting tourism in Angus. The
award ceremony was held in Carnoustie Golf Hotel and was compered by Dougie Donnolly, the well known BBC sports
commentator. He sits on various committees
relating to the Angus glens.

He have done
various interviews for the BBC (both television and radio),
the most enjoyable being with Muriel Gray and the most
recent being in June 2009.
Gordon is
currently available as a speaker on various topics relating

Following surgery in
2005 for a ruptured mitral valve Gordon is now vice chairman
of the Angus Cardiac Group and is involved in various NHS
committees.
